Staging at Fillmore. Oblique aerial view showing the Staging Elevator on the far side with the Staging Fiddle Yard nearest the camera.
In the picture below, the prominent square is a folding table that is used to help an operator set up consists on a yard track. It is shown in the folded and stowed position.
The table is piano hinged and is raised to the horizontal position (below).
As seen below, a hasp is provided as a safety to hold the table support in place in case the table is knocked.
To set up rolling stock on the fiddle yard, a box is simply taken from the magazine and placed on the table. The table has edging to keep the box in place along with trapezoidal cut-outs to make lifting it off the table easy (below).
In the view below, the box is opened and a hook is provided for placing the lid.
I wrap my models in polyethylene sheets as protection from sticking to the soft foam lining. And added advantage to this is for retrieving the models from the depressions. The sheet is opened and the model is lifted out by holding onto the sheet. This is safer than pulling on the model directly as there is quite a lot of delicate underbody details.
With the consist built, the box is closed and replaced in the magazine, the table folded, and we are ready for ops!
